Total Media Fast: Day 9, Withdrawal and Relapse
Yesterday's post would have been overly provocative and inflammatory to expose. And in the "Pink Scare" climate we have at the moment, the wrong person finding it at the wrong time could have had severe consequences. Or so worries my wife. She does not want me to have a "James Damore" moment. And loving her and trusting her as I do, I did not post it.
Without a stimulus, the mind can create perceptions and fill in the gaps with what it expects to experience. It can hallucinate concepts and visions of life as a substitute for what it is not being exposed to. And so it seems to be the case with disengaging from the central cultural narrative.
Without a well-defined focus, my mind will wander around and amplify the echoes of drama from my own life represented in the world at large. What is needed is that well-defined focus. That purpose that my life is for outside of the conformity to the cultural narrative.
It was noted by Susan Sarandon, in a Guardian article that I snuck on to read, that the media does not report on what is really going on. Her choice to NOT to vote for Hillary Clinton (as with many women) was ridiculed broadly for being a gender traitor. Hillary advocated for the Gulf War back in 2004 such that Susan could not support. Although sticking to her principles, Susan could not uphold a narrative running contrary. She would rather withstand the storm of disapproval than sacrifice her authenticity.
What I am left with is a renewal of a commitment to this "Media Fast". However, I see that I need to gently direct my mind to discover and manifest principles that work for me and the others in my life. Gentleness. Kindness. Love. Beauty. Passion. Play.
